Instruction 4 (Fig 6-146, 147) The body turns left, the center shifts to the left leg. Simultaneously, the left hand arcs down to the left side, the right hand, palm up, rotates in and is pushed out to the front. (Facing East)
Note: When bringing the left foot in, make sure the body squats slightly, the shoulders sink and the elbows are down, the chest is held in and the waist bends, causing the qì to sink to the dan tian, with the center stable. When the right palm is pushed to the front, it is done simultaneously with the body turning left, the waist rotating and the spine turning, causing the qì to be issued from the dan tian through the fingers. The left palm in pressing slightly down at the left hip must be symmetric with the right palm. Simultaneously, the center sinks slightly, the left hip relaxes, and the right leg presses down to the rear.

The fist strikes no farther than five inches, no less than three inches; at distance do not strike with the elbow, inside do not strike with the hands; no matter whether front or rear, left or right, each step is one beat; when encountering the enemy, be precise in assessing the person, be subtle in keeping your movements hidden.
