Instruction 5 (Fig 5-13,14 ) The left foot is raised and takes an opening step to the left front at 45°, touching down with the heel.

Instruction 6 (Fig 5-15,16,17,18) The body first turns slightly to the right, then turns left. Simultaneously, the center of gravity shifts to the left, following which the the left hand rotates out, the right hand rotates in. Following the body moving out the the left front, the left hand moves to the left front, the right hand to the right rear.

Instruction 7 (Fig 5-19,20,21) With the right leg, step to the right front, touching down with the toe. Simultaneously, the hands come together in front of the chest, the left hand moving to the middle of the right forearm.

Note: In shùn and nì silk reeling1, the waist must serve as the axis, and the movement from right to left coordinated.

The terms "nì" and "shùn" refer to a sense of the energy flow something like the difference between rowing a boat upstream (nì) versus downstream (shùn). In the context of silk reeling (chán sī gōng), we have nì chán (nì reeling) and shùn chán (shùn reeling). [tr]
